On a blisteringly hot and humid day (25th July) we had a great turn out at R&CPGC for the England Golf South Region Women & Girls Championship, with some of the best golfers in the South Region taking part. We saw some wonderful golf and some incredibly low scores returned.
With temperatures around 38-degrees the girls and ladies sweltered, but toughed it out for 36-holes which, with only a few unable to cope, was an amazing accomplishment.
Chloe Burdon from Chartham Park in Sussex was the worthy Champion, with gross scores of 73 and 71, followed not far behind by Lauren Gooding from Roehampton, with scores of 73 and 74.
Other notable mentions from the day were a gross 4-under from Olivia Horsford of Wimbledon Park, Surrey in the morning round, and an amazing 8-under from Sittingbourne's Nicola Smith in the afternoon round, which smashed the course record!
The afternoon also brought in gross 3-under rounds from Ellie Burdis, of West Kent Golf Club and Rafiah Banday from Royal Mid Surrey Golf Club. Under very trying conditions, these scores were amazing (heat? what heat?).
A special mention must go to our own Karen Sinden who completed 36 holes, determined as she was to fly the flag for R&CPGC ladies. For full results, click here.
In complimenting our club, Kent County Captain, Cheryl Power, said: "A huge thank you must go to John Aughterlony and his team at R&CPGC for hosting this prestigious event. Their welcome and 'no holds barred' efforts on our behalf were second to none. Nothing was too much trouble: from providing frozen baby wipes and chilled water on the tee and throughout the day, to providing wonderful food and helping with administration both before and during the event."
"The course itself was in fantastic condition" she continued "and a great test of golf for all levels, with brutal rough in places but beautiful fairways and greens. So, all credit to the Head Greenkeeper, Danny Dalton and his team. A very successful day. Thank you."
