Course is Open, No Buggies. (updated 25 January at 05:44)

It's now 10 weeks since our new Captains kicked off their year by announcing that this year's charity would be "Make-A-Wish".  With the first wish funded within weeks, we got off to a great start, and now Club Captain Mark Riddick updates us on progress and future activities.

He told us: "I know many of you watched the two Make-a-Wish documentaries on Channel 5 before Christmas – for those that didn’t, they are still available on catch-up.  They provide a great insight into the wonderful work this charity does and how your generous donations are spent.

Since our last announcement – that we had raised the money to send Amy from Maidstone to Iceland to see the Northern Lights – we understand that her health has taken a turn for the worse, and she has not yet been able to make her wish come true.  Our best wishes and thoughts are with her and her family.  We will keep you posted.

On a much more positive note, our members have continued to pour money into the charity.  In fact, the level of contribution has been so great that we have raised, and sent, the money to fulfil another child’s wish already!  Her name is Alicia and, like Amy she is 15 ... and lives in Maidstone!  Alicia has been diagnosed with Dermatomyositis - a rare inflammatory disease that affects the muscles and causes progressive muscle weakness.  Currently there is no cure.

Alicia wished to see her favourite football team,  Liverpool FC, play and was desperate to meet Jürgen Klopp and the team, and watch them play at Anfield.  She told us: ‘I would love to be able to play Fifa with Jürgen Klopp and Bobby Firmino, I think I could win!  I am so grateful and can’t thank you enough, not only for making me feel more positive but my family also as my illness has not only affected me but them as well’.

This will now be made possible with your support.  We hope to bring you more news of her trip shortly.

So far you have donated over £9,000 for Make-a-Wish ... in two months!  This is an amazing achievement,  thank you so much for your generosity.

Towards the end of January we intend to announce our third Make-a-Wish child, so watch this space.  To track our fundraising efforts keep an eye on the charity barometer on the stairs landing in the clubhouse.

If you’d like to donate, you can do so by cheque, made payable to Rochester & Cobham Park GC Ltd., or by bank transfer (BACS) to Sort Code: 20-54-11, Account No: 40759910, Ref: Make-A-Wish.  Alternatively, there are collecting “tins” and buckets around the clubhouse."

With best wishes and grateful thanks,
Captain Mark
