So ... check out this video from the Chief Executive of Make-a-Wish!  Your generosity is clearly getting noticed at the very top of this charity!

...

So far you have donated £10,500 to make the wishes of critically ill children come true.   This is a truly fantastic effort – way beyond my expectations!

You may remember, from my last update in early January, that our first Make-a-Wish child – Amy – had been too ill to travel to Iceland to see the Northern Lights.  I am delighted to be able to provide the following update from her Mum, Kathy:

“Thank you so much, we have been in and out of hospital but she is now allowed to weight bear again and is doing well. She has been permanently on crutches and I was getting worried we might not be best placed for Iceland in April – fingers crossed though we seem to have turned the corner now!”

Our second child Alicia has made her Wish come true! She went to Anfield to watch Liverpool in fantastic seats and spent time with the team, including her two heroes Jurgen Klopp and Bobby Firmino.  Alicia was clearly thrilled:

“Thank you Make A Wish and Rochester & Cobham Park Golf Club for granting my wish, I’m so grateful and can’t thank you enough for not only making me feel more positive but my family also, I really can’t thank you enough for this amazing wish that you have made come true! Once again thank you very much!”

So now we move onto our third Wish Child and he is a really smashing lad!

Theo is 9 years old and lives near Tonbridge, Kent with his mum. He was born with a rare birth defect called Hirschsprung’s Disease. The lining of his bowel is missing some vital nerves and Theo has already undergone considerable treatment to correct the condition.

Theo’s One True Wish is to visit Port Aventura in Spain. This huge water and theme park is home to many exciting rides, and the trip will mean a warm holiday for Theo and his family away from hospitals and doctors!

“It means so much to me being with my family on a fun holiday! I love rides and love being by the sea so this is perfect!” said Theo.

Sarah, Theo’s mum explained “Life hasn't been easy for Theo as over the last few years he has had six  surgeries and still suffers every day with his very rare condition. He knows he is different, but copes so well with his condition and manages it in such a mature way. Although his condition will never go away he has learnt certain strategies to cope and tries to enjoy a happy and fulfilled life. Thank you for making Theo’s dreams come true!”

Theo 2Given the generosity you have all shown to date,I think we can make his wish come true pretty quickly, don't you?   The sum we need to raise is £3,530 and we have already raised a proportion of this (£1,100 pounds was raised at the Valentine’s Dinner alone).  A few pounds from each of us will get the job done.

If you’d like to donate, you can do so by cheque, made payable to Rochester & Cobham Park GC Ltd., or by bank transfer (BACS) to Sort Code: 20-54-11, Account No: 40759910, Ref: Make-A-Wish.  Alternatively, there are collecting “tins” and buckets around the clubhouse. Keep an eye on the charity barometer on the stairs landing in the clubhouse to track our fundraising efforts

With best wishes and grateful thanks,
Captain Mark
