Dartford Golf Club, Sunday 7th April 2019
A windless foggy start to the day, followed by broken drizzle, made conditions interesting for our Club Champion and two time winner, Mike Bush in this year's Kent Club Champions 'play-off', The Watson Trophy.
Fortified by a two egg, two rasher baguette, Mike made a very solid start to his round and was one off the lead at the turn. However, he got no luck on the back nine with some punitive lies and positions from good drives and found himself needing birdies/eagles on the last two holes. A magnificent 290-yard drive straight down the fairway on the short par-four 17th, followed by a fantastic chip got the crowd excited, but the birdie putt drifted by. Needing an eagle on the 18th, Mike's awesome drive found the greenside bunker, but a great shot out to within a few feet drew loud applause from the clubhouse - unfortunately the putt again just missed.
A great effort that just came up short in the end. Congratulations to the Club Champion from Upchurch, who won after the first hole of a playoff against the Red Libbetts' champion.
