Last Sunday, Super Sunday, (September 29th), our scratch squad successfully defended the County's top trophy, the Perman Shield, against Wildernesse.
In wet and windy conditions we lost the morning foursomes 3 - 1, leaving a mammoth task for the afternoon singles. The weather was kinder, with sunny spells and a few squally showers, resulting in some brilliant golf from both sides. After seven matches it was all-square.
Danny Dalton came up the 18th, all square and won the hole with a great par 4, resulting in an overall w 6½ - 5½ win. Well done team.
Meanwhile at Sittingbourne, other members of the Scratch squad were winning the Kent Amateur Foursomes, Mike Bush's squad bringing home the trophy for the first time. Another great effort.
Unfortunately, the treble eluded us as the Kent Top Club team went down, also at Sittingbourne. Captain Tony Hastings said: "Having fought courageously throughout the season to get to the final, we were not good enough on the day. I'd like to thank and congratulate all the members who played in the squad on this run to the final, and look forward to going all the way next year."
