COURSE IS OPEN.

On Friday 15th March the Club's racing fans descended on the clubhouse to watch three races from Cheltenham, including the Gold Cup, live on the big screen and tuck into a traditionally English afternoon tea. There were eleven tables of eager punters, lots of ladies wore hats and even one or two of the men sported a trilby!

The afternoon started with a glass of fizz (of course) and Pimms jellies before the crowd sat down to enjoy delicious sandwiches, scones and cakes, prepared by chef Danny. What a treat ... we all ate far too much!

...

'Honest' John the bookie, ably assisted by Jan, took tote bets and the excitement grew as the starters flag fell for the first race and the horses thundered towards the first fence. First past the post was Minella Indo, an outsider, so there were only two ladies to share the pot: Wendy and her daughter, who won £150 each!

The Gold Cup was another exciting race with everyone cheering on their horses. This time around four lucky winners shared the pot, scooping up £50 each, including Wendy yet again!

So on to the last race when Mrs Ellis decided to empty her purse and bet on the majority of the field. She cheered one of her horses to the finish, but sadly 'Honest' John refused to pay out as her horse had no jockey! There were six lucky winners, all ending their day £30 better off.
